"Discovering Chemistry" Lectures

19th March, 1pm, Senior Theatre. Dr. Rachel Caruso, University of Melbourne, "Materials Chemistry. What is that?"

A brief introduction to Materials Chemistry will be given, along with examples of research that is being conducted by Dr. Caruso''s group. How can Materials Chemistry be applied to solve energy and environmental challenges? Can Materials Chemistry play a role in the medical fields? Come along to find out what impact Materials Chemistry will have on the future. Following the lecture, you can speak with Dr. Caruso and members of her research group and tour the Caruso laboratories (please bring your safety glasses for the tour!).

21st May, 1:00 pm, Senior Theatre. Ms Duanne Sigmund, University of Melbourne, "A Radical PhD."

A brief introduction to free radicals will be given along with an explanation of some of the work being done in the Wille group. Duanne will discuss some of her experiences from 399 through to her PhD and offer advice to those of you considering continuing with Chemistry. Following the lecture, feel free to ask Duanne any questions. If interest is shown a short tour of Bio21 can be organised.
