Requirements for a major in chemistryStudents planning to major in chemistry will need to make their second year choices carefully so as to ensure that the requirements for a major are met. The Faculty of Science states that a science major is defined as 50 points at 300-level (third year) in a discipline. The School of Chemistry has further requirements that aim to ensure that graduates complete their course with a minimum core set of skills, including lab courses in two of the core subject areas, and lecture courses in three core subject areas. The School of Chemistry therefore requires that in addition to completing 50 points at third year level, students must choose at least two subjects from the left hand list, and at least one from the right hand list.
Third year subjects for a major in Chemistry
Second year choicesSecond year subject choices must be made carefully so as to ensure that prerequisites are met for third year subject choices. In general, second and third year subjects are comprised of lecture components, and practical components. The second year courses containing lecture components are prerequisites for any of the corresponding third year lecture courses. Thus, satisfactory completion of either the subjects 610-210 or 610-211 is a prerequisite for enrolling in any of 610-310, 610-311 and 610-315.
