The University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne is a truly international institution, with students from over 100 countries currently enrolled. It is located in Parkville, an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The City of Melbourne is Australia's most multi-cultural city, and recently voted world's most livable city! The University also has several associated rural and regional campuses in the State of Victoria.


The School of Chemistry  

The School of Chemistry, a Department of the Faculty of Science is located at the University of Melbourne's main campus at Parkville. Outreach program

The School is a founding member of the Victorian Institute for Chemical Sciences (VICS), a collaborative venture between Chemistry departments at RMIT, Monash and Melbourne Universities, with the objective to provide key research programs, equipment infrastructure facilities and educational outreach activities for the benefit of Victoria.   Read more about the outreach program, aimed at Victorian students from grades 7-12, who want to explore the possibilities of Chemistry!

 

Course structure / outline

Undergraduate study in Chemistry at the University of Melbourne requires enrolment in a Bachelor of Science degree. The Bachelor of Science (BSc) is a three-year degree. There is the option to choose a major in your third year, and then complete a fourth, honours year. Further information about the Bachelor of Science degree is available.

Depending on what you have studied at high school, you can choose chemistry subjects in your first year and then undertake a chemistry major and honours. Living on-campus / Accommodation

Accommodation for students is available on the University's main campus at Parkville. There are currently thirteen residential colleges on-campus, which provide full-time accommodation for Melbourne University students of all levels, from both Australia and overseas.

Student Housing Services also assists students in sourcing and maintaining affordable, safe and appropriate housing.

Student Services

Services for first year students

The University recognises that the first few months of university are an exciting time, filled with new friends and opportunities. As well as its annual orientation program, it offers a transition program for first years, to assist them with the adjustment to university life.

The School of Chemistry has a first year learning centre, where students can drop in at lunchtime to seek help with their chemistry studies from the tutor on duty.

The Faculty of Science offers a first year lounge to assist students with the transition to tertiary study.
